One thing that I really dislike is when a person asks the obvious just to grab someone's attention. Apparently, at work today, I encountered this kind of person. Here's what happened:
I was helping this Asian couple(Filipinos to be precise) at the till when suddenly the man asks me, "What's that in your pocket?"
Surprised as I was, I looked at him and answered, "A wax paper." However, what I really wanted to answer him was "Isn't it obvious that it is a wax paper?". Good thing I was able to restrain myself from answering him that way or else my manager would have heard it and reprimand me for being arrogant. So, I let it go.
It seems that the man didn't want to put a halt to our conversation yet so, he asked me another question( add to that the silliest question I heard in my whole life) with a huge smile plastered on his face, "Are you Asian?"
This time I wasn't able to hide my annoyance so I said, "Do I look White to you?". To my astonishment he said, "Are you White?". And he bats his eyelashes and smiled at me in a weird way.
Seriously?!
"Are you Asian?" What a silly question to ask! Ugh! I know for sure that I look 100% Asian physically. My body doesn't even have a single hint of being Caucasian! (=_=)"
Geez. I was annoyed and at the same time I wanted to laugh at his silly questions.
What a day.
